On January 20th, 2018 at around 7:50PM, a Los Santos County Sheriff's Department deputy was conducting a traffic stop on a Tahoma in the area of Blueberry. The driver of the vehicle exited his Tahoma and fired at the patrol car with a handgun before fleeing the scene. Backup responded to the area to find the deputy deceased in his vehicle. An on-scene investigation was conducted by a member of the Detective Bureau and patrol deputies, who were able to gather enough information to place an all-points bulletin.

The suspect was located in his vehicle shortly after and deputies attempted to take him into custody. The driver led units on a pursuit that ended near Azalea Street in Los Santos, where he surrendered peacefully. Deputies recovered a handgun from the suspect while conducting the arrest, which was later confirmed to be a match to the weapon used to murder the deputy at the original traffic stop. Deputies advised the Detective Bureau that the suspect was in custody.

The suspect was transported to the Sheriff's Department headquarters in Dillimore, where he was interrogated by the detective who had helped conduct the on-scene investigation at the original homicide. The suspect confessed to the murder and stated that he had shot the deputy to avoid being arrested, as he had an overdue traffic citation and was in possession of an unlicensed handgun at the time of the traffic stop. The suspect was transported to the San Andreas Correctional Facility for holding pending a variety of charges including murder of a law enforcement officer.

Anyone with further information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department's Detective Bureau at (808)121-5929 referencing case number VH-128618.
